Does anyone else think that the choice to make Rolling Stone's guitarist Keith Richards the new face of Louis Vuitton is absolutely ridiculous? He will be posing on a hotel-room bed, holding his guitar in a dim room covered in black skull-print drapes. The following slogan will grace the ad: "Some journeys cannot be put into words. New York. 3 am. Blues in C".
Maybe Louie is trying to go in a different direction as a company. Maybe they just ran out of ideas. Either way, Richards just doesn't make me think of Louis Vuitton. Click here for Richard's personal site. For starters, he's 64-years-old, a rocker, a former drug user and not very glamorous in my eyes. Former spokespeople for the brand have included Catherine Deneuve, Scarlett Johansson and Uma Thurman. These women represent the high-end brand. Richards does not.
The only silver lining to this marketing decision is that Richards is donating his wages earned to Project Climate, a grassroots organization that raises awareness of the climate crisis going on in the world.
