A New Take on Wedding Season

As the days quickly pass by, wedding season is approaching faster than ever. It's the time of year when bridezillas across the nation gear up for the most stressful, yet most exciting day of their lives. In the midst of this hectic time, possibly the most excruciating decision for a bride-to-be is deciding on what to wear for the big day. Tradition tells the bride to go with a classic white gown- not too sexy and not too frumpy- something perfectly elegant that will make every head turn her way. While classic white may be a safe choice, why not give the big day a little more va-va voom?

Reem Acra is one designer who doesn't play it safe. Her spring 2009 bridal collection which was unveiled at her New York showroom on April 13, is full of bright colors and unconventional fabrics.

Acra's show, which unfolded to a soundtrack of Edith Piaf, references iconic doll and fairy tale figures such as Raggedy Ann, Sleeping Beauty, Alice in Wonderland, and Strawberry Shortcake. The models in the show were placed like installations in whimsical settings involving tea parties, lounging on furniture, and of course dolls, which all added to the vibrant and youthful feel of her collection. Acra told reporters that her vision was one of the future. She wanted to give the vibe of youthful girls rummaging through their mothers' more sophisticated closets. While the boldness may not be ideal for every bride, some will definitely be thankful for Acra's willingness to leap out of the bridal box.

This daring collection has received both criticism and praise. Some critics say that color this bold isn't meant to be worn on a woman's wedding day. However, on a such a special day when a woman wants to be the center of attention, I say do something a little different than boring old white. After all, your wedding day only happens once, so why not celebrate with a splash of color!
