Sales, Sales, Sales
Although an economic recession makes most people timid and uneasy when it comes to spending money, it brings one good thing: SALES. So many shoppers are spending less this holiday season, and every wise holiday shopper is searching for the most economically reasonable deals out there. Fortunately, retail stores are aware of this caution, and are responding with irresistible sales. The other day, my mom and I went to American Eagle because we had a coupon for 40% off the entire purchase. As if that weren't enough of a discount, everything in the entire store was buy one, get one 50% off. We got almost $700 worth of clothes for me, my brother and my mom, for close to $350. Inspired by the sales, we headed down to Express, where they were eager to tell us that everything in the store was 20% off! And select items were buy one, get one 50% off! We bought a few things, and paid much less than we normally would have at Express, which is usually not cheap. As we walked through the mall, every store seemed to have some sort of discounted prices, or special offers like awarding store credits for purchases, inspiring shoppers to return to their store after the holidays to take advantage of these unbelievable markdowns. How long these sales will last is a mystery, but as long as people are hesitant to whip out that plastic, retailers will have no choice but to adjust their prices so that at least some people will continue to buy. And as long as that happens, those of us who just can't control ourselves when we see that new dress or pair of skinny jeans will be continuously delighted by the low and irresistible prices.
