The Craze: Pucker Those Ruby Reds

The Craze is a trend report bringing you the latest (and, duh, the greatest) in beauty and style.

Except for maybe our eyes, our lips are the most attractive part of our face. Of course, that’s why lip color is an essential part of a woman’s daily look.

Choosing the right color is like finding the right bag: when it doesn’t match, the whole outfit is a HOT MESS.

This fall, it seems that a certain color from our grandma’s makeup bag is making a comeback. The “Red Lips” are in again and won’t be leaving for a while. That's because a red lipstick helps exaggerate our lips for a fuller, healthier look.

Think about it — red has been on many infamous lips (Jessica Rabbit, Betty Boop and Marilyn Monroe), and now we’ve seen red on the runways in Paris and New York.

Red lips work on a variety of faces and skin tones.

Women of all skin tones can rock this look, ranging from lighter tones like Gwen Stefani’s to tanned skin like Penelope Cruz’s to darker tones like Jada Pinkett Smith’s. Wearing a red lip can brighten a dark outfit and whiten a smile, or even show some maturity with an edge of sex appeal.

If the economy is weighing down heavily on your pockets, CoverGirl’s Continuous Color Lipstick ($5.49) or L’Oreal’s Color Riche Lipstick ($7.99) are good starters and can be easily purchased at a drug store.

If you’re more of a big spender, treat yourself to Chanel’s Rouge Hydrabase Creme Lipstick ($24.50) or MAC’s lipstick in Ruby Woo, designed specifically for Madonna ($14).

Whether you dress up for class or are a leggings kind-of-girl, red lipstick can add life to any outfit. Dare to go red!
