Today was the first day that I woke up feeling like spring actually might be coming. The sun was shining, the snow was melting, and students on the street seemed to have ditched their winter coats for the day. I decided that today I would dare to go bare. Bare legs, that is.
With this decision I started looking around at my skirt options. Although I have always been a wearer of shorter skirts, I didn’t want to overdo the bare-legged look when it is still only the beginning of March. I decided on a black, high-waisted pencil skirt. This skirt is made with thick, flexible cotton, and this wintery fabric keeps the outfit in tune with the season.
I wanted to pair the skirt with a casual top because pencil skirts can look dressy or professional, which weren’t the looks I was going for. I chose a blue plaid button-up for a more casual look, but also to match the skirt’s color and the season.
Lastly, I chose blue flats to match the shirt and a gold decorative headband to accessorize. Just like the structure of the pencil skirt and the casual vibe of the shirt contrast each other, the casual flat and the fancy headband do the same. With this outfit I tried to establish these contrasts so that in the end I would look neither dressy nor casual, but a mixture of both.
