Fierce+Foreign: Brogues for Every Budget

Fierce+Foreign draws on the fashion experiences of SU's students in our favorite abroad capitals.

London: Maria Sonico

About every stylish girl I’ve spotted on the streets of London has had on menswear-inspired shoes, so naturally I'm obsessed with spring’s hottest trend: the brogue.

The brogue, or wingtip as it’s known in the US, was originally made popular by the British Teddy Boy youth culture in the 1950s. Teddy Boys wore the low-heeled, leather lace-ups with frilly high-collared shirts and drainpipe trousers, but today girls are pairing the fancy footwear with anything from skinny jeans to floral tights and girly frocks.

Here are some of my picks to shop the look:

Men’s Style Pointed Brogue Urban Outfitters £32.00

Crochet Brogue Shoes Topshop £60.00

Camden Leather Brogues J.Crew £165.00
Classic Burwood Brogues Church’s £205.00

Classic browns and blacks are tried and true, but go for a playful pastel to brighten up your spring wardrobe.
