Designer Confidential highlights the work of SU's greatest fashion asset: its student designers.
She's chill, sultry and bold with designs that can suit any female who wishes to release her inner diva. As a SU senior fashion design major, Avery Carter knows that a designer creation is a reflection of the designer herself.
"I want my collection to scream me! Fashion should be something you covet,” Carter says.
Last semester, students designed three different collections with 25 pieces. From there, each student chose one selection to make six looks from. Carter explains, "I think my style has these really girly doll inspired looks but everything is really structured with a really tough edge; it's a hard edge."
Carter cites her inspiration from Théâtre de la Mode, a 1940s fashion show in Paris created by designers to revamp the fashion industry due to the troubled economy. "I love combining the unexpected and playing with the idea of contrast. I just rolled with it," Carter adds.
This month, Avery will graduate along with her other fashion design classmates. However, she knows her road to success has just begun.
"I know you have to pay your dues. I know people in the industry but I don't know enough yet. I want the collection to be the best thing I've ever done in my life. It is non-stop work,” says Carter.
Her Dream Job: To have her own fashion line.
Why you should look out for her: She says it's more important for her to buckle down right now rather than go out with friends.
Designer’s Confidential: She plays volleyball.
