Rag Report: Breakfast at Audrey’s

Rag Report
dives under the covers of fashion publications to rant or rave about all the glossy goodness.

In this month’s Vanity Fair, the photographer brings the style of legendary Audrey Hepburn to life with a colorful spread called “Think Hepburn” played by Skins actress Kaya Scodelario. The spread uses a compilation of pictures on each page and recreates the storyline from Hepburn’s 1957 film Funny Face. The photos seem as though they are stills from the movie.

This black haute couture dress screams Audrey Hepburn. It has a Parisienne feel; this is only enhanced by the beautiful French architecture in the background. The colored balloons add a whimsical touch that is so intrinsically Hepburn. Each element of this photo makes perfect sense.

Elegance, a central characteristic of Ms. Hepburn, is dominant in these photos. The top picture channels iconic images of Hepburn surrounded by hydrangeas and wearing big straw hats. The Scodelario’s makeup is classic, timeless. In the bottom photo, the black Gaultier Paris gown complete with white gloves is the Breakfast at Tiffany’s staple. The Eiffel Tower backdrop and the model’s designer-clad companions are regal; this looks like it could be a royal photo. The Eiffel Tower especially is a monument that exudes elegance and classic beauty and it wonderfully serves its purpose as the background in this spread.

The three pictures on this page are a continuation of the luxurious theme in previous pictures, but they are still unique. The top photo shows yet another beautiful ball gown, this time in show-stopping red. It is amazing how the architecture in this photo enhances the beauty and opulence of the clothing. The billowing cape at the top matches with the flowing bottom of the gown. The wedding picture is also Hepburn-esque. The Scodelario’s face is shown through the lace veil, a photographic technique that is simply beautiful. Just as in the top photo, the picture at the left uses grandiose architecture to showcase equally luxurious clothes.
