The Craze: Making the marshmallow look good

The Craze is a trend report bringing you the latest (and, duh, the greatest) in beauty and style.

What’s winter, especially in frosty Syracuse, without the legendary puffer? These bad boys have been around for ages, but haven’t always been so fashion-friendly (Remember looking like the Michelin man growing up?). Well, lucky for us, there are some styles out there this season that will you keep you warm and stylish — the ultimate winter combination.

The key to unlocking this trend is making sure there's some sort of visible silhouette. A lot of winter jackets tend to hide your figure instead of enhancing or flattering them, so be sure to choose a coat that has some killer tailoring and a clear, feminine shape, like coats from from G-Star Raw, Marc by Marc Jacobs and Kenneth Cole.

Go for a define waist, like this Marc Jacobs puffer coat

If long length isn’t your thing, go for something shorter, but with equal attention to detail, like the Thaly Jacket by Soia & Kyo, or something edgier, like Helmut Lang’s down coat.

Just because you may be braving the snow in this piece doesn’t mean you can’t look chic at the same time! Go for a coat with detail — high collars, flattering cuts and unique stitching all make serious fashion statements.

Last, but certainly not least, don’t be afraid of color! Don’t get caught up in the drab colors of winter; try new hues, like this RainForest Pillow Collar Jacket, which you can purchase at Nordstrom.

Give your puffer a pop of color

Colors like taupe, burgundy and crème all look great in the winter time. You don’t have to stick to plain black if you want to go the extra mile to style!
