The Orange Carpet scours SU to roll out the best of campus style (die, hoodies, die!).
With little observation, it is quite obvious that trends cycle through and through. The accents of the `40s and `50s are becoming increasingly popular — from costume jewelry to decorative hairpieces — old Hollywood glamour is still in style.
Gareth Brown, a sophomore Fashion Design major, knows a thing or two about personal style. Here she has on a structured blazer, paired with dark denim and this wonderfully chic feathered hair piece. When first asked to describe her personal style, Brown couldn’t really condense her style into words. However, she replied with the short, witty response, "Classic with a touch of hippie."

We like it.

The structured jacket that Brown is wearing gives off a distinct feeling of confidence that shines through when she tells us about her outfit. She purchased the jacket at a local thrift store in her hometown of Morristown, New Jersey.
"It’s actually J. Crew, and it was only six dollars," Brown brags slightly about her top notch find (as we would too). When asked where the unique and eye-catching feathered clip came from, she said that it was a gift from her aunt, but the origin was unknown.
Brown's crowning glory, the feathered clip
The feathered hair clip was what first grabbed our attention about Brown’s outfit. The reds and pinks worked well against her dirty blonde hair. Headbands, hair clips and other hair accessories are a great final touch to a classic outfit, like a blazer and jeans. Going back to the idea of old glamour, flowered or jeweled hair accessories, bows, and lace really speak to that particular style. We especially like this feathered headband by Pluma. It has the perfect amount of feather.

However, keep in mind too much feather is not always a good thing and can begin to look like a bird died atop your head. So flirt with this feather trend, but don’t go overboard!
