More about Miss England

ABC News can't get enough of England's plus size model, Chloe Marshall.  I watched the GMA special, they did on Marshall.  I did not understand ABC's infatuation with her.  I know she is changing the image of pageants in England, but what about America.  I have yet to see any stories about American pageants and their strict standards of beauty.  These pageants do not have a diversity of body shapes or people.  Crystle Stewart from Texas was the state's first black queen and is one of few Black women to win Miss. USA.  I think GMA should localize this piece to America and look at beauty standards and the interworking of a pageant.

Marshall Trashed Again

More debate over plus size pageant contestant Chloe Marshall continues in England. Marshall is the first plus size model to make it to the finals of the Miss. England pageant. However, Marshall is being attacked in the media for her size. ABC News says "the British press chided the size-16 Miss England model as 'fat, lazy and a poster girl for ill health.'" Former Miss England judge Monica Grenfell says "What she's demonstrating isn't bravery but a shocking lack of self-control. Instead of flaunting her figure, Chloe ought to own up to the truth. She is fat and she got that way by over-eating."

I think its appaelling how Grenfell is trashing Marshall in the media. Grenfell is promoting dieting on her website but everyone knows diets do not work. People gain the weight back after they are off the diet. Grenfell's platform is diet, fitness, style, and health. She has also written : 5 Days to a Flatter Stomach, Beat Your Body Chaos, Fabulous in a Fortnight, Get Back Into Your Jeans, Cellulite Buster, The Revenge Diet and Crash Diet. I think she is attacking Marshall to get more publicity and try to convince people to buy her books. The fashion industry is trying to get a variety of sizes so why not give Marshall a chance to prove she can handle the fashion world.

Plus Sized and Crowned

The first time in British history, a plus sized model will compete in the Miss England pageant.  Chloe Marshall is sixteen years old, 176 pounds,  and 5 feet 10 inches.  Marshall was crowned as Miss Surrey in England.  "I want to bring plus size back and I want to show teenagers that you  can be beautiful whatever size you are" said Marshall.  I think its long overdue that there has not been plus sized models competing in pageants.  I think the ideal of what is beautiful is changing for the better.
