The Craze: Tailored White

White has always been known to be a color reserved for Spring and Summer. As seen in this year’s Spring 2012 collections, many designers chose to incorporate neatly tailored, clean white looks. In many cases white can represent purity and simplicity and by pairing highly tailored designs with fresh white, designers can create an ultra chic, clean look.

For Jill Sander’s Spring 2012 collection, high collars were combined with tight fitting tailored dresses and skirts. This gave the collection a very modern, elegant look. Karl Lagerfeld, like other designers, also included elegant all white pieces into the Spring 2012 collection for Chanel. The beginning of his collection was reserved for entirely white designs. This decision allowed his collection to transform throughout the show starting out with simplified white designs and finishing with dazzling highly embellished pieces.

To achieve this sleek modern look try pairing a tailored top with a little flare of embellishment and tight white skinny jeans. The all white look also adds room to play with colorful accessories so let your imagination run wild.

Rag Report: Summer Time and the Fashion is Easy

This month’s Glamour makes me yearn for days filled to the brim with sunshine and long summer nights. In a spread shot by Max Farago and modeled by Marloes Horst, different summer trends fill the pages. The one thing they all have in common? Vibrant colors.

In the first photo Horst exemplifies a perfect balance between girly and sporty. Her Christopher Kane neon lace jacket and skirt are fun and lively with a touch of feminism. The A.L.C. khaki top acts as a neutralizer between the two shocking colors, and her Adidas Originals give the outfit a laid back feel. Her wide smile and playful stance express the feelings of summer.

The next photo is more laid back and casual. Here, Horst wears a bold sunset orange skirt with a simple plain white tee both by Jil Sander. She casually leans against the rail with palm trees in the background, reiterating the summer season. Her facial expression is carefree as to mimic the attitude of the season.

For this photo, the mood is once again playful but with a sense of confidence. Horst wears a yellow top paired with slightly dark yellow pants both by Max Mara. Her Soludos shoes complement the yellow and seem to bring the island feel to her outfit. She sits casually on the chair with one leg up as she sips on her beverage. Her eyes seem to invite the reader to comment on the bold one color choice.

As I look out the window and see gray skies and puddles created by the recent rain, I can’t help but daydream about the summer complete with colors that come alive and bold fashion trends that make you seen in a huge crowd.

Rag Report: Always the sophisticated, Waldorf

Blair Waldorf, ahem, Leighton Meester takes to the pages of Lithuania magazine L’Officel in the March issue. Donning the latest trends of bold, bright colors, Meester looks nothing less than regal in this editorial.

Meester takes our breath away in this photo. We love how simple the photo is because it exemplifies her stunning beauty as well as the Yves Saint Laurent jumpsuit. The bright orange color compliments her skin tone, perfectly. Even though Meester’s eyes aren’t directed toward the camera, we still are engaged with the image.

Hair slicked back in a chignon, coral lipstick and neutral eye shadow, Meester looks perfectly content in the photo. The glimmer in her eye and subtle tilt of the lips transforms this image into something magical. Meester wears the Max Mara outfit with a grace and confidence that speaks volumes.

The editorial spread isn’t the only images with a gray backdrop. L’Officiel uses the same background on its cover and, we absolutely love it! Meester’s posture is slouched yet her facial expression is poised. The Lanvin top and Jil Sander skirt works in this cover as orange type is around her. I guess we know what colors are going to be a hit for spring!

Overall, the editorial is clean and simple. The photographer manages to capture Meester’s true beauty without the addition of over exaggerated makeup or hair. The background complimented the simplicity the photographer conveyed in the images.

Rag Report: Stone Fever

In this month’s issue of “Interview” magazine model Lara Stone graces us in a 4-page spread that begins with monochromatic simplicity and ends in excellence. Photographer Craig McDean captured Stone in jaw dropping poses with wardrobe from Donna Karan, Jil Sander and Louis Vuitton.

In the first image of Stone, McDean has her on a chair, legs crossed, face positioned away from the camera – perfection! Since the background is so bare, viewers are more inclined to notice her outfit – and let’s not forget those killer Yves Saint Laurent pumps. Her facial expression is visibly strong which only compliments her exuberant attire and posture. Stone’s slick back hair and barley there eyebrows and makeup also adds to this amazing editorial spread.
Stone never ceases to disappoint us viewers because she looks stunning in this image. From her posture to her expression, Stone has it all. Her arched back allows readers to easily see the clothing and her stretched out legs show Stefano Pilati’s YSL Palace 105 hair pumps from his fall 2010 collection. Again, Stone features only compliment the overall image. Immediately we are in awe not only of her beauty but Stone’s ability to leave us wanting more of her in every image.

The third image is a close-up image of Stone and can we just say how much we admire this photo! McDean captures Stone beautifully as there is a sense of vulnerability and sadness in this image. The light gray background against her all black ensemble forces the viewers to pay attention to her eyes. Although, Stone becomes the main focus she still shows off the clothing well.

The last image needs to be discussed because Stone looks ridiculous in this photo! She does everything right – from the stance to her expression. Even though it is in black and white, McDean has Stone captured in a way where the intensity of her emotions pierces through the photo. We can never get enough of looking at this image.

McDean photographed each spread amazingly. Stone definitely brought her A-game to this photo shoot as it is clearly depicted in every single photo. Stone does it time and time again this model knows what angles look best on her. As a result, the viewers are left with a memorable editorial spread.
