Biz Buzz: And So it Begins…

Biz Buzz keeps its fabulously accessorized ear to the ground to provide breaking fashion news coverage.

Fashion Month is upon us! First off we have New York Fashion Week, where so far trends include color blocking, menswear-inspired looks, throwbacks to the ‘90s, and lots of red, whether it’s on the clothes or the models’ lips. Find full coverage of the shows and reviews at Style.com and New York Magazine’s Fashion Show Page.

This year we’re being treated to plenty of backstage coverage as well, thanks to the 24 bloggers blogging platform Tumblr flew out for the week. Find the complete list on Fashionista.

Teen Vogue editor Eva Chen has been chronicling her all-access backstage escapades on her Tumblr blog What Eva Wants.

The Grammy awards were Sunday night. Who tops your best and worst lists? Check out FabSugar and Go Fug Yourself for all the looks (including Gaga’s egg!).

Celebrity fashion line alert! Both Rachel Zoe and Lauren Conrad debuted new collections this week.

Jezebel has a great video of images of pre- and post-Photoshop models. See, no one is born with perfectly airbrushed skin!

Biz Buzz: The Kardashians getting some wows

Biz Buzz keeps its fabulously accessorized ear to the ground to provide breaking fashion news coverage.

The Kardashian sisters Kim, Khloe and Kourtney of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” have teamed up with Bebe Stores Inc. to create their own clothing line. Their line, named Bebe-Kardashian, debuted on the runway this past Tuesday at Style360.

Kim claims their line is suitable for any body type. “Me, Kourtney and Khloe have all different body types so we wanted to make sure the pieces would fit all different body types,” she told The Wall Street Journal’s Heard On the Runway blog. Bebe-Kardashian is chock full of body-hugging dresses made of fabrics like jersey and spandex, along with up-to-there hemlines.

Jersey Shore's JWoww at the Bebe-Kardashian show

An apparent fan of the Kardashians’ designs is JWoww of Jersey Shore fame. She attended the fashion show, albeit in an Ed Hardy by Christian Audigier dress. At least it was suitably tight and low cut. JWoww’s front row appearance caused a mob-scene of press...and maybe even some fans.

What has become of New York Fashion Week? Thirteen-year-old mini-bloggers and now JWoww?! Front row seats are no longer for just established fashion gurus a la Anna Wintour. Perhaps this is the democratization of the fashion industry, but we don’t have to like it! What are your thoughts?

Biz Buzz: NYFW, the last time in the park

Biz Buzz keeps its fabulously accessorized ear to the ground to provide breaking fashion news coverage.

It is that time of year again! Twice a year, designers pull out their latest collections for shows in New York to inspire those within the fashion industry. For years, Bryant Park has been the holding place for the extravagant events, but this year (Feb. 11-18) marks the last time the shows will take place there. This fall, the shows will move to Lincoln Center.

As always, viewers can expect a wide selection of designers to be featured, with the theme this year being charity. Naomi Campbell is scheduled to have superstars walk the runway for Haiti relief. The Red Dress Collection will also host pieces to raise awareness for heart disease, which is the number one killer of women in the U.S. according to the Center for Disease Control.

Since 2009, New York Fashion Week has been branded as the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, one of four major fashion weeks held in the city.
