The Craze: Cropping Up in Spring

The Craze is a trend report bringing you the latest (and, duh, the greatest) in beauty and styles.

Crop tops are this spring season must-have trend. Although we’ve seen this trend in the past years, more people are willing to expose their flesh for fashion this season. Fashion lovers will be excited to get their hands on crop tops, when warmer weather approaches.

Rachel Comey Spring 2011 RTW

Crop tops made a surprising debut in the spring 2011 collection. Many designers made the tops structured and clean while some kept it light and airy. Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai of Vena Cava showed a daring yet sophisticated off-the-shoulder cropped top. Rachel Comey, on the other hand, kept it simple with a white, flowy cropped top.

There are so many ways to wear crop tops, but remember to pick a style you’re comfortable with. From the grungy to the classy, fashionistas will have no trouble choosing a crop top that fits their personal look.

ASOS has a great sheer crop top that is perfect for those warm Syracuse days!!! (We’re still waiting, mother nature!)

Want to add some print to this budding trend? Well look no further! TOPSHOP has a stripped rust and navy crop top that will go great with high waited shorts!

The Craze: More Fashionable Than Superman

The Craze is a trend report bringing you the latest (and, duh, the greatest) in beauty and style.

Is it too cold for a hoodie? Do your arms feel stiff in your nice wool coat all of the time? Then try one of this fall’s latest trends: the cape. Don’t worry. You won’t look like a superhero or a vampire.

Urban Outfitters

Rage & Bone, Vena Cava, and United Bamboo, to name a few, showcased this new cover-up on their Fall 2010 runways earlier this year. Even Gossip Girl’s Blair Waldorf wore a shorter cape, known as a capelet, this season.

Capes come in a variety of styles, just like most outerwear. They have the coverage of a coat, but the freedom of a vest. Adding a cape to your outfit instantly dresses things up, so you remain polished without looking as if you tried too hard. Wear them over your blouse and jeans while heading to class or match it with some business attire for your upcoming interviews.

Nordstrom

From high-end retailers to your local mall, capes are bound to be in stock. So chose your style and your price range. The cape trend is for everyone this season.

Cuse Closet: Bon jour, Montreal

Cuse Closet peeks inside the staff's wardrobes to find out where we're going and how good we look getting there.

Today's closet: Emily Montgomery

Somehow vacations always sneak up on me. One minute I'm throwing
together an essay, the next, a suitcase (or doing both while riding in a car to the airport...don't judge).

Vacation dressing on the other hand, I've always got that planned. To get myself in the mood for my maiden voyage to Montreal, I threw on an ethnic inspired blouse that hints at the style of one of favorite labels Vena Cava. While my friend says I look more ready for tropical beaches than cobblestone streets, with the help of an oversized scarf, wool tights, and boots, I'll be ready to say bon jour to the QC.
