The Craze: Denim on denim...yes, you can

The Craze is a trend report bringing you the latest (and, duh, the greatest) in beauty and style.

When we think of wearing denim on denim, the disturbing image of Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake at the American Music Awards in 2001 may come to mind. But, if worn correctly, it can become a very chic ensemble.

The first rule is to wear different washes; pair a lighter denim shirt with a jean in a darker wash. Second, break up the look with accessories, like a tan belt as shown at D&G.

J.Crew offers a chambray top paired with sparkly extras to balance out the tough denim material of the shirt.

American Eagle’s cowboy-inspired western shirt features pearl snaps and studs, which are another big trend for spring.

So, with that said, denim on denim is no longer taboo. In order to be truly fashionable, one has to learn how to break the traditional rules.

Rag Report: Denim Delight

Rag Report dives under the covers of fashion publications to rant or rave about all the glossy goodness.

If dog is a man’s best friend because of its loyalty, then denim is ours. Like writers, fashionable guys and gals have their own form of writers block, but we’ve got denim to save the day, every day. Obviously we were stoked when we flipped through ELLE Italia’s denim editorial in their February issue.

Noot Seear in Vogue Italia

Photographed by Matt Jones, Noot Seear looks laid-back in all denim looks. Many of the photos feature a messy, half-naked Seear lazing around in various washes and styles of denim. Some of the shots are very reminiscent of the old Calvin Klein denim ads – “nothing comes between me and my Calvins.”

A denim delight

Our favorite shot in this editorial features Seear blissfully relaxing near a countryside mansion of sorts. The trendy clogs and the denim outfit paired with the sun and gorgeous setting make us long for the spring when we can at least try to replicate this cool look.

What we really like about this editorial is that while the thought of wearing all denim, especially in different washes, is usually pretty nauseating, here it’s pretty appealing.

Denim in different washes...and we don't even hate it!
