Super heroes aren’t the only ones who can rock the cape trend. This super hero inspired trend is a chic alternative to winter coats. Cape’s are also the perfect transition piece from winter to spring. The cape trend re-works the indie poncho look and refines it into a chic winter jacket option.

The Orange Carpet spotted Lauren Taylor looking cozy and chic in her black cape and fur embellished high knee boots. This simple outfit is taken to another level with Taylor’s alternative to a pea coat. The best part is that this expensive looking cape if from H&M. Her jersey cape will be a great alternative to a cardigan in spring. It is also a great layering piece with long sleeves or a chunky scarf.

The Craze writer, Kate Ahrendtsen, knows how to dress to impress. For her interview, she layered on the garments and accessories to create a lasting look. Instead of going for a strict black and white ensemble, Kate chose to add a bit of color. She wore a high-waist free flowing black skirt over a pair of textured white tights, creating a chic and professional look. She incorporated color with her soft lilac top adorned with intricate beading. The bold black beads picked up the black in her shirt, helping tie them together.

She then chose to layer a neutral tan blazer overtop for a polished and professional look. Her caramel brown boots contrast with the blazer giving the outfit a relaxed feel.

As a final touch, Kate layered on bracelets and a watch and wore simple diamond earrings to complete her look. The stacked bracelets act as the perfect accessories because they pick up the glimmer from her top. Kate’s outfit is perfectly polished and sure to making a lasting impression.

Julie Kosin, our Designer Confidential writer, painted the gorgeous Wednesday with pastels from her head down to her toes. Her outfit was perfectly matched around her cool-colored skirt (such a breath of fresh air after constantly seeing dark winter shades). In order to balance out her outfit, she kept her top half neutral by layering a soft grey t-shirt under a flowing white sweater.

She decided to strut under the autumn sun in bold violet Toms shoes, which added a sense of playfulness to her outfit. To further emphasize the bright colors of the skirt, Julie lined her top eyelids with a berry purple and her bottom eyelids in with soft turquoise eyeliner. The liner brightened her eyes and was the decorative ribbon on a gift in terms of her outfit.

As a final touch, Julie draped a long gold vintage necklace around her neck and a few simple bangles on her wrist. She added color to the perfect autumn day as she walked to and from all of her classes.

Friday’s dreary November weather did not cast a shade of grey over our Bizz Buzz writer Diana Pearl’s wardrobe. Her outfit, composed of neutral basics, was ideal for a laid-back Friday trip to the mall. She wore a soft pink tank under a white button-down blouse, which she kept unbuttoned. This was then paired with black leggings to balance out the free flowing fabrics. The accessories chosen brought this look together and took it from comfortable to fashionable. For an international flair, Diana decided to wear her boots she bought in San Remo, Italy (I don’t know about you, but I’m slightly green with envy!). She also added a skinny belt to accentuate her waist and give her outfit shape. For a final touch, a string of pearls was draped over her neck instantly adding a feminine feel to the entire outfit. Altogether, Diana looks like she could be lounging at an Italian café sipping a cappuccino (which sounds heavenly right about now). The dull and rainy weather wasn’t able to put a damper on this outfit. Now, who is ready to shop?

Biz Buzz: Sonia Rykiel for H&M part 2

If you haven’t gotten enough of affordable designer collections (and who hasn’t?!), you’ll be glad to know retail giant H&M will be launching the second part of its Sonia Rykiel for H&M collaboration this Saturday.  Debuting in 200 stores worldwide for women and girls, the collection will consist of vibrant colors, Rykiel staples and classic knitwear, also a signature of the French “Queen of Knits.” This release serves as a follow-up to the successful first part of the collaboration, which hit 1,500 H&M stores this past Christmas season and featured exclusive lingerie and accessories.

The best part about the second release, as though reasonable prices aren’t a good enough incentive, is that it also features a UNICEF bag designed by Rykiel. Part of the proceeds from the bag’s purchases will be donated directly to UNICEF’s “All for Children” project, a five-year program the organization has with H&M, benefiting children in India’s cotton-producing communities.

“We fell in love with this knitwear collection,” said Jörgen Andersson, H&M’s Head of Brand and New Business, in a press release. “…Rykiel’s woman is ageless - she’s portraying a very strong, self-confident woman who can live life as she wants."
