Rag Report: Shining Twilight Star

Twilight star Kristen Stewart is featured on the cover this month’s Vogue. Eve MacSweeney delved into who Kristen Stewart truly is in her article “Coming on Strong.” The 20-year-old actress has already accomplished a lot including her role as Bella in the Twilight Saga. However, this young woman does not flaunt her successes. She has a mellow attitude and strives for nothing but the best.

In the first photo, featured in the letter from the editor, Anna Wintour states how Stewart has “made a generational link with girls all over the world.” In the photo, shot by Mario Testino, she is wearing Proenza Schouler. She sits cross-legged and is slightly hunched over making her seem approachable and open to conversation. Her facial expression is neutral and relaxed, allowing her natural beauty to shine through. It’s no wonder so many girls feel they can connect with her.

Stewart’s next photo is with Proenza Schouler’s Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez. She is wearing one of their dresses in a deep earth brown and glowing sunset orange. There is emotion in her face and she is holding her two hands together. This photo allows us to truly see Stewart and relate to her like millions of others.

In the last photo, Stewart’s hands are almost exactly like the previous photo indicating that it is her natural stance. She is dressed in a tweed bustier dress by Proenza Schouler in a bold and rebellious pattern to match her personality. Stewart is who she is and has a certain edge to her, which can clearly be seen through the way she stands and how she portrays herself.

Stewart gives off an edgy vibe and isn’t afraid to show the world. She rarely shows her smile and is often “accused of being downbeat and defensive” during her appearances in public. Nonetheless, perhaps these seemingly negative qualities are what make her so relatable. Girls and young women are able to relate to her as she shines in her role of Bella.

Rag Report: Lagerfeld's lucite and lace

In this month’s ELLE, cover model Jennifer Lopez was head to toe in leather and chains, while a few pages later, Karl Lagerfeld was dreaming of an otherworldly girl in delicate lace.

The model, Olga, was Lagerfeld’s muse for Fendi’s spring collection.  We thought this editorial had some pros and cons.  The main pro was, of course, that this collection was designed by fashion god, Karl Lagerfeld. The con is that the model’s face was a bit lifeless in a few of the shots.  But we’ll talk about that in a minute. Let’s start with this shot of Olga in navy.

We love the tulle wrap sandals and the embroidered lace. It all ties together nicely — pardon the pun.  What we don’t like about this shot is the model’s checked-out facial expression.  It almost looks like she was about to pose and then heard someone behind the photographer call her name.  

She could use a pint of blood as well. And we don’t mean that sexy, Twilight sort of pale. Anyway, the other thing that makes this photo pretty nice is all of the blue.  It brings out the blue in her eyes, whereas they appear to be Lucite in other photos.

Surely, the photographer was aiming for this bright white to artistically contrast against the black background. We think this looks a little too much like the negative rather than the developed photo. This shot also brings out her lack of eyebrows and hair color.  The blouse and skirt aren’t our favorite pairing either. 

To end on a high note, however, we think the model looks alive in this photo:

Her eyes are still transparent, but the hot pink lipstick surprisingly brightens up her face.  The dress is great as well, especially since it doesn’t look like it was made only for a model to wear.
