rock the boat

It's officially spring, almost time to pack away the snow boots- even here in central New York. Although nautical is the perennial spring trend, this year boat shoes look like the hot new alternative to sneakers.Converse just jumped on board with their canvas Sea Star, and Steve Madden's Fix line adds funky colors to the classic silhouette with their Punky2.
Even Sperry, the leading boat shoe brand since 1935, added a youthful swatch of Lauren-esque plaid to their classic Bluefish 2-Eye and promises 20 new styles in May.

Uggs 2.0

Love them or hate them, Uggs aren't going anywhere.  Thankfully the Australian company has released some polished-looking alternatives to the original suede boot.
The Brooks Tall fits like the original but with a cleaner silhouette, sturdier leather, and better traction.

The Broome captures that perfect rugged equestrian feel without sacrificing the wooly sheepskin lining.

At the very least, both of these boots deserve a nod for practicality: the leather will stand up to rain, snow, and salt much better than their suede counterparts.
